The University of Guelph and Humber College have a number of locations spread across southwestern Ontario. The main campus is located directly at the University of Guelph in Guelph Ontario.
Overall Guelph is an extremely University oriented town. Many local businesses welcome the students as the population grows significantly during the school months. With nearly 20,000 students enrolled at the University of Guelph, this is about 1/6th of the entire city’s population. The royal city has a great night life, excellent walking trails and plenty of activities in the surrounding city to engage students and keep them busy in their off hours.
Guelph is also located respectfully close to Toronto and GTA so it offers plenty of networking access to other universities as well as opportunities for some great weekend fun. It’s quite easy to catch a bus to Toronto and enjoy the day shopping or experiencing some world-class entertainment.
The University has recently undergone major improvements and many of the buildings feature some of the newest resources and facilities that are available at Ontario universities. Guelph is known for its veterinary program, agricultural program, as well as its extensive dedication to research. Guelph consistently ranks amongst Canada’s top universities for its research projects and breakthroughs.
With the new science complex as well as the new engineering complex, Guelph is beginning to expand the programs that it offers as well as continuing to provide the top industry leading experts and resources to help educate future generations.
Although class sizes in undergraduate are a bit on the large side, professors are top-notch and attempt to engage their students no matter the class size. With an excellent humanities program as well as a fantastic computer science program Guelph has plenty of options available for both electives and majors.
Many programs even span across multiple disciplines. Programs such as the information systems and human behavior degree available from the University of Guelph merge both computer science and humanities into one undergraduate degree. Program such as this are only available at the University of Guelph campus and there are other hybrid programs available to choose from depending on your interests.
The University of Guelph has excellent green space and plenty of ways to get active with the University and enjoy the campus. The University of Guelph’s Arboretum is an excellent place to relax and unwind and walk some protected nature trails that are on campus.
Campus security is also extremely helpful and while you are on campus is quite easy to reach campus security should you have any issues.
The residences are clean and extremely private, with the option for single rooms or to share a living room. The food had Guelph is also consistently rated high in McLean’s guide for on-campus eateries. Although it is not cheap to eat on campus the food is excellent and if you have a meal plan you have a number of world-class meals and healthy options to choose from each and every day.
The campus is well known for its beauty several years ago the Canadian series called “The Best Years” used the Guelph campus as the backdrop for their series. Guelph’s historic architecture and buildings have been photographed and made the subject of many art pieces as well.
Overall I would rate my experience at the University of Guelph extremely high. Guelph is a flexible school and allows you to study and learn the way that you decide as well as provide interesting classes from knowledgeable faculty in just about any subject that you would like to learn more about.
