Right To Protest Equals Right To Throw Litter at Police?

By   |  April 3, 2009

Global trade is frozen solid. USA is waging two failed wars. England is a mess. France is constantly on strike. Germany and Japan are near bankruptcy status. China and Russia are crafting a plan to free the dollar from its position of being the world’s chief reserve currency. The world is confused by what it does to itself. This is why the top 20 leaders – 85% of the world’s economy – have met in London to panacea this crisis. But why are people protesting when these leaders are endeavouring to iron out this deepening financial calamity?

Well they are of course angry about all sorts of things, for a start, losing their jobs. These people are members of the usual suspects: anarchist, climate change and so on; their intentions are to take advantage of the presence of the G20 leaders in Square Mile. And the group that are making the loudest noise is the anarchist, and their manifesto is anti-capitalists. They are furious at the way unfettered free market led to the biggest economic slump in living memory and they want a world free of powerful banking corporations and crooked politicians.

Having said that, when these protests smash building, clash with officers, chant anti-capital, anti-war and anti-pollution slogans, throw bottles, cans and paint bombs at police lines, and then get beaten up by officers with batons and left bleeding on London pavements, it chips away at the moral stance of all those involved by proving to the spectators that those engaged are nothing more than thugs who are inept of rational behavior. Therefore they are unlikely to be engaged in any sort of discourse. More to the point, their messages are likely to be ignored.

What’s more, in London at least, Northern Ireland’s own painful experience of the past thirty years demonstrates that street violence is the road to nowhere.

So there is no need for protests. The world is in a mess. These leaders know that and they are endeavoring to speed up the recession. They are aware that people are losing their jobs. They do not need punch of people shouting outside where the summit is taking place. And let’s not act as though we (the angry public) have nothing to do with the credit crisis. We are one of the factors that caused this financial black hole. We have become nations of frivolous spending and no saving. Therefore when banks needed money they had no choice but to borrow. Furthermore, we (the share holders: you, me and our neighbors) demanded our bank CEOs to jump on any profitable bandwagon that passes by regardless the risks or they jump out of the window.

So there is no need for anarchists and climate changes to march on streets of London and cause havoc. And let’s be honest with ourselves for once, deep down in our hearts we do not want to ban cars or planes or banks. What we want is truthful and honest politicians, genuine democracy and an understanding that we are the keepers of this earth and ought to look after it.

  1. rarely have I read, in my 37 years, such obvious drivel. Does the writer of this piece truly believe that the public at large should just lay down the right to be heard? The UK has, throughout it’s history had unparalleled violence in protests. To all intent and purpose Oliver Cromwell was an anarchist, though we view him differently in hindsight. The right to protest is so mired in our right to be human it would be like boiling a kettle and sealing the top, to stop people protesting. Protest alows the people in charge to understand the limitations of peoples patience, it says ‘ do not get too comfortable’. Politicians are many things and being pro-active without need is not one of them. These people have not completed one (not one) of the previous agreement of intentions of any previous sumit, so why start now. No, they pander to the base belief of people that somebody, anybody will sort everything out for them.
Tinct Israel did not fight off the invading arab nations, it held onto land that was stolen from said arab nations by a bunch of bankers at the end of the last world war. They were trying to (re) capture the land. Israel was created as part of a financial deal done between banks and nations. It is also a reason people do not trust Israel, it was not a nation born or organically grown. It was created to solicit a group who had not taken part in the conflict or fought in any great numbers on the front lines but seemed to get a fairly big payoff for their trouble.

  2. You are so right, Reality. The last trace of a spine in any Western world leader disappeared from the face of the Earth sometime 20 or 30 years ago, when Israel fought off the invading Arab forces in 1967 (instead of crying for peace) and when Ronald Reagan demanded that Gorbechav “tear down this wall” (instead of only urging and pleading and condemning).

Now, in the 2000s, we have a naive man in the White House inexperienced with the way the world actually works, who ignorantly believes that everybody on this Earth is interested in peace even when they say they’re not. We have Western leaders threatening to take North Korea to the UN, not only a cowardly and yellow tactic but worthless because the UN is fast become a stinking cesspool of anti-Western and anti-Israel zombies. If Iran is any indication, North Korea won’t give a damn about what anyone says or does short of direct and forceful action.

Where has our dignity gone? Our pride? We, the Western word, have unwittingly become mired in the quicksand of political correctness and are horrified at just the thought of butting heads with another nation. This will only get worse before it gets better.

  3. There is no reasoning with those who either can not or will not listen to reason, so therefore the will only be one result. The liberal element will of course scream and throw their hands up in horror right up to the moment that the rioters are kicking down their door. The only answer to this is a swift and decisive response to those who step over the line, if they don’t like it then tough, they shouldn’t have damaged or harmed anything other than themselves.

  4. yah seriously wtf… these jerkoffs make their opinions on par with a bunch of hooligans in a brazilian parade…
