Islamic Fundamentalism Flips Off Multiculturalism

By   |  August 25, 2009

1619934.bin.jpegWomen Against Shariah has posted this very interesting story about a feud stoked to flames in a Toronto apartment building- all because one man , Matthew Coutts, had the audacity to greet a Muslim wife with a friendly “good morning”. Matt describes himself as hugely friendly man, one who runs errans for unfamiliar neighbors in the pouring rain and strikes up storms of conversations in the laundry room. Your typical, outgoing, well-meaning neighbor. But when he greeted the wife of the new Muslim couple across the hall, they confronted Matt and demanded that he not speak to the wife nor look at her.

While the Muslim couple’s outrage at such a forgettable, day-to-day Western method of greeting is unsurprising, the response of Matt’s landlady is very a disturbing one and forebodes a politically correct world where multiculturalism has us whipped, gagged, and bound hand and foot out of fear of offending foreigners (interesting to note: it’s almost always one kind of foreigner that Westerners are afraid of offending):

She has told me to adhere to the demands because the man “could be dangerous,” directing me to literally turn my back to the couple as they pass, never make eye contact and never hold the elevator for them, no matter what.

Now, make no mistake. I’m not calling this couple a pair of jihadi-crazed Islamic radicals. But their behavior is exemplary of a disturbing trend we’ve seen growing among Muslims in the Western world over the past 6 or 7 years; an adament refusal to integrate into the societies they immigrate to, to the point where their surroundings must adapt to them instead of vice-versa.

This is no isolated example. Just take a look at Britain; where it had its own British culture 5 years ago, it’s now steeped in Shariah-like culture and has even legalized Shariah law and Shariah courts to accommodate its fundamentalist Muslim population. Look at Michigan, too.

And because these Muslim immigrants refuse to accept their new surroundings, surroundings which they have moved to out of their own free will, the only logical outcome is for their surroundings, which is us, the freedom-loving Americans, to accept them. To accept them, in all their cultural intolerance. And in this politically correct day and age, where everyone and his mother is afraid to offend someone because of their religion, what else are we going to do besides shape ourselves to adapt to these uncompromising immigrants?

For anyone who’s pounding their desk screaming ‘racist’ right now, let me put it to you in another context; Mexican immigrants, legal or not, cross into America in search of work so they can make money to send back to their poverty-stricken families in Mexico. Many Asian immigrants- Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc.- come here for similar reasons.

But they INTEGRATE. They adapt to their surroundings, and respect their home-away-from-home’s culture and social laws. Many, many of these Mexican and Asian families hold on to their cultural roots in America. Many of them don’t even speak English. That’s fine. That’s America.

But when you come to this country, demand that your boss give you 5 breaks a day to pray, demand that your local hospital remove a cross depicting Jesus Christ because it offends your religion, and get into fights over a friendly, everyday “Good morning”, it all belies an ulterior reluctance to integrate into the society you’ve thrust yourself into. If someone moves to a country, they need to be ready to learn the cultural and social laws of the land. At the very least, they better damn well learn to accept them.

It’s the immigrant’s job to adapt to society, not the other way around.

These Muslims aren’t even refusing to integrate out of some culture shock; it’s because of their religion. It’s not Arabs that are coming to America and Britain and Arabifying everything they touch; it’s Muslim fundamentalists, of all races and creeds, Islamifying everything to suit their wants.

The sad fact is that for these fundamentalist Muslims, multiculturalism is a one-way street. Everyone must pander to their needs, lest they offend their great religion of peace, but they have no obligation to appease our cultural ideologies which have been here much, much, much longer than they have.

I love culture. I love shop-hopping in China Town in San Francisco, carry a inexplicable taste for Ukranian punk, and have a tendency to write, listen, and dance Russian. I would love nothing more than to travel abroad and throw myself into France or India or Greece for a couple years. Foreign culture is wonderfully fascinating, and never in my life would I want to change the culture of a foreign country for any reason, least of all to make it more like home.

Therein lies the problem with these Muslim immigrants; it needs to be brought to light. The aforementioned landlady’s quote is exactly the kind of mentality that’s killing this country and killing its freedom of culture; “yes, they’re being dicks, but just do what they want because it doesn’t take much trouble and anyways they could be dangerous if you don’t do what they want”. If this keeps up, plan on not being allowed to publicly show Stars of David or nativity displays in public in the future because the city council is afraid of offending these foreigners, who “might be dangerous”. At least the landlady was right about that last bit; Muslim fundamentalists are like cyanide to the cultures of the countries they immigrate to.

We used to have pride in America. Patriotism. Americans used to love America and for everything it stood for; democracy, liberty, and freedom. Yes, Muslim immigrants have the freedom to come to the United States and keep to their own culture. But they do not have the right to forbid us (or anyone) from enjoying our own, and they certainly don’t have the right to foist theirs upon us (see: Britain). If we don’t start taking pride in ourselves, our country, and our values again, we can count on having to co-exist with Muslim fundamentalists who demand women at their jobs wear hijabs and Muslim bus drivers who pull passenger-filled buses over to pray in the middle of the work day.

Where has the starspangled patriotism of the 1950s gone?

I love foreign cultures. I love the pizazz it brings to our own, washed-out, bland American culture. But more importantly, I love this country. I love and appreciate, every single day, the freedoms I enjoy, the ones that people in Africa, North Korea, China, Lebanon, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan don’t have. I’m damn proud and goddamn thankful to live in America, and if some immigrant couple can’t deal with a smiling neighbor giving them a friendly howdy-do in the morning out of common human kindness, I’ll happily buy them a ticket on the first flight back to Syria, where they can enjoy press, religious, sexual, vocal, and political censorship until their eyeballs fall out.

  1. Thanks Vincent. Well-said.

  2. People will call you a racist for this, Tinct, but know what? F**k ’em. ‘Cause they’re the same as that landlady. I’m not some redneck patriot who’s gonna preach “if you don’t like it, get out”, but that certainly seems to be the best sentiment regarding these situations. Fear rules this country now and only tearing it down and restarting would fix that, because people are too scared to amend their ways and tell these people that “this is our country, not yours; this is how things are done and we ain’t gonna change it for your happy ass.”

  3. Thanks Tom. Good to see I’m not the only one out there.

  4. Excellent article. I agree with every word.
