3 Student Reviews of Lincoln College of Technology : Denver

  • Matthew Hawes is a great leader and boss. To be honest one of the fairest and best bosses I have had in my career. The reviews below must be disgruntled employees who did not do thier job right. Matthew expects a lot but fair in his expectations. I would work for Matthew in a heartbeat again!

  • As was the reviewer above, (George Brucato), I am also a former employee of Lincoln Education Services. I left Lincoln of my own accord for a lateral position with another school due to the abusive and disrespectful treatment of employees which, at least in reference to the admissions department, was against the new “for profit” regulations to my understanding, which were in effect at the time of Matthew Hawes employment as Vice President of Admissions. Apart from blatantly ignoring new regulations in reference to the Admissions team, Matthew Hawes and his underling, Gretchen Lammle, had a general policy of “hired today – fired tomorrow” and never let a day go by where each and every person under their command was not reminded that working for them was a privilege and that they could be walked from the building at any moment. “Work Hard” meant get the student to sign up at any cost – if the student you were speaking with did not enroll, it’s because you failed and failures would be weeded out. If the student enrolled but cancelled, again, it was the Admissions Representatives fault; we failed the student and the school and would be weeded out. Roughly every three months or so, a new group of soon to be former Lincoln Employees were called into the conference room, informed they were being terminated, and then escorted from the building only to be replaced by a new group of recruits. Please keep in mind that the new regulations covering “for profit education” forbade schools from compensating OR terminating admissions employees based on enrollment or retention numbers and this is precisely what Matthew Hawes and his Management minion, Gretchen Lammle, were doing. Can you imagine the stress of this “work environment”, especially when most Admissions Reps do this type of work because they GENUINELY want to help people live better, more comfortable and more secure lives? Can you imagine every meeting beginning with a reminder that you can be fired at any time and ending with “if you don’t like it, lets meet in my office to talk about an exit strategy.” On top of all this, “overtime” was often mandatory; if you weren’t “on track to make goal” than you should expect to be working Saturdays. If you DIDN’T work the Saturdays, then you should expect to not have your job if you did not make goal. “overtime” was “paid” – but it was paid at roughly but not quite HALF TIME. This environment was the most horrid and stressful of any environment I have ever worked in and I have been in sales for more than a decade. This man Matthew Hawes and his underling, Gretchen Lammle have no business managing a pair of socks and certainly not live human beings who are more than just the job they have been hired to do and who would certainly be much more effective at that job if not harassed to the point of vomiting in the bathrooms after lunch from stress, abuse and fear of not being able to feed their families next month if they didn’t get that ONE extra student in or “one got away”. An organization is only as good as the people who run it and those people ran it into the ground – about 6 months after I left, the Henderson NV location I worked at was shut down; the employees arrived at work and were told to pack and leave. The Secondary branch in Denver, CO was drastically reduced as well.

  • I was hired as an Admissions Advisor in July, 2010. I was hired to converse with students and advise them relative to their situation in life…which was genuinely a high value job that provided students with proper direction in life.

Within 3 months of being hired, the Director of Admissions was replaced by a Vice President of Enrollment and Retention. His name is Matthew Hawes. Matthew quickly hired Gretchen Lammle to be his Assistant Director of Admissions. Google Gretchen Lammle’s name and what did I find? A smoking gun of gross misconduct of her while working under Matthew Hawes at Granthm University during early 2010.

I found that they were being sought by the U. S. District Court of Western Missouri for abusing employees rights per the guidelines mandated by the Department of Labor. After speaking with an attorney for the employees, I also found that there were numerous occasions where Matthew Hawes was not appearing for court. Bad boy-

Imagine for a moment that you are now working for a guy such as this who has been in the education career field since late 1990’s. He spent 5 years at University of Phoenix where he claims to have been collecting quarterly bonus checks ranging from $25-$30k. Guess what happenned to UoP…sued for $274 million US$ for predatory lending and tactical enrollment deceptive practices…just about the time Matthew left.

He then goes to Grand Canyon University where he becomes a top guy in enrollment/retention there. He also acquires a masters degree there…hmmm…wonder how he got that?

Here’s where it gets a bit sticky…Lincoln’s CEO, Shaun McAulmot hires Julie Smith to be President of Lincoln College Online. A program stuffed with nationally accredited curriculum. Julie hires Matthew Hawes with the help of a few associates at Lincoln Educational Svcs. from the unemployment line after being fired from Granthem U. Google Julie Smith and up pops a Missouri State gathering that also reveals the mame of a Carol Fagen, Provost of Granthem U.-head of academic affairs. Carol had to be involved with tje hiring of Matthew Hawes or Gretchen Lammle. As the pieces begin to form a puzzle, I was enrolling students, who were being credit transfer evaluated by a Christina Fagan…my Continuing Student Advisor in the Denver Office for Lincoln College Online & the newly acquired Lincoln College of New England…the latest acquisition jewel for Lincoln Educational Services (LINC).

Last but not least, Matthew knew I was getting warm on his trail of gross abuse to both employee and students, by way of predatory lending and employee “Brow beating” to drive the students to the Financial Aid Departments. While appearing in court in Missouri to discuss with the judge the next steps for Granthem before having to pay its Admissions Advisors for all overtime that was removed from their ADP clock system and the mandatory post work efforts while also not on the clock…he actually told us he was getting a vasectomy.

The reason for most all criminal thoughts and efforts is the “Bottom line”…money. If the shareholdets of the LINC stocks knew that the balance sheets were being inflated by such activities, how long would it take before all informed investors pulled their interests out of LINC?

    YOU BE THE JUDGE!

Go anywhere but this school and do yourself some good.
