  • Mitch

You can thank Doug Ford and the Conservative governments for denying you a part-time job.

The same type of political actors who cut costs and jobs while enriching the 1%.

  • ALL PART TIME JOBS AT GEORGE BROWN WILL BE ELIMINATED BY JANUARY 2020. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT CUTTING COSTS. PART TIME STAFF/FACULTY ARE BEING TREATED LIKE GARBAGE HERE. DON’T EVER WORK AT THIS DISGUSTING EXCUSE OF A COLLEGE.

  • I completely regret coming to this school. I was in a one year culinary baking course as an entry level. I realized this school too many problems that can be easily fixed if anyone showed any organization. Here are few problems with the school.

    1. The elective course are absolutely terrible. Limited choices and as little to no relations to culinary. It was a complete waste of my time and money to go these courses. Astronomy, Body works, Forensics Science, or Philosophy is some examples of useless courses.

    2. A few baking courses could have been merged together to be one course instead two seperate classes. Dessert menu management can be merged with Cost Control or get rid of the pointless Production class. It’s pointless busy work that makes it less breathing space for the students.

    3. The whole idea behind placement tests just seems a bit ridiculous. I graduated from highschool in Toronto and they still want me to take the placement test. So I only did one of them which was English and left the Math alone. Both classes I did well back in Highschool. I wanted to see what the point was having this test. Guess what!? You pass the test, and still take a “college” level course of that test. I put that in quotation because the level that teach you is highschool level. The entry level math course after not taking the placement is literally entry level. I never bursted out laughing so hard how the math they taught you was middle school level then college math is actually highschool. It was a completely pointless waste of my time.

    4. The professors are a hit and miss for me. There are some great teachers here but there are also awful ones. Some of them give little to no care about you and some of them are completely rude. Many of them are very biased which I feel like all teachers should stay neutral as possible.

I meet some great people here that I was able to make friends with but many of them agree with me that this school was not worth it at all. I feel worse for foreign students who had to pay way more for the same subpar experience. Stay away from this school and I recommend either a private college or get a part time job working in culinary to gain experience.

  • If the students who are applying there are doing so for class only and not the extra curriculars and or networking opportunities then you are better off applying for online courses only at Yorkville University.

This way at least you avoid paying a lot of extra fees for facilities you shall not even utilize such as the gym, basketball court, food court, Student Association… most students do not even use these facilities themselves anyways. So avoid this place its not going to give you value for money.

See you at your minimum wage jobs after graduating with GBC.

  • I give this review a ZERO. Was actually VERY close to applying to this college. I live very close to this school so I thought I might as well just apply to this one. Turns out, they have the WORST administration ever! The moment you enter the school to ask for help they ignore you and think that you are a waste. Adding to that, apparently they think they own the place. No kidding. Some of the people there don’t think even speak the language clearly. If you are thinking in applying to George Brown I just saved yourself some time and don’t apply. I made the right choice to go to Humber instead. Good day.

  • if you do not believe me about disability services and the programs here… look at my english skills writing above. This is one semester with english…. and getting no help. There are to many teachers per student. Go else where.

  • The school has a lot of activities to do. The issue with the school is the fact students who struggle in school should not be offered jobs. The issue should be after getting a job after you are done the program, not while your are in the program. when you work while inn school or they give you full time jobs. It should be advised for people who can handle it. But note.. school comes first before school. you are there to get a better job. not do badly in school and have a crappy job. You want to do better in school and learn so you can upgrade your skills to get a better job after you have finished then promote crappy in both areas and continue with a crappy low level job. George brown is promoting the wrong cause and does not understand this. If a child o student is have problems in english and wants do better they do not think about working now…..while in school. They want to focus on school and do a good job so when you enter the work force… you can do more then labour work that gets you dead end jobs. Disability services is awful.

  • GBC has been sued twice and a third time by myself though mine was not a lawyer thing, but rather a battle with the president Ann Sado. It is terrible for the 21st century. Do not go there, you shall regret it if you do.

  • Being a student with mental instability, the professors are not trained to work with students who many have some mental challenges. They are supposed to refer you to the counselling department who are then supposed to either work with you or to refer you to someone who can help take charge of the problems

  • I went to GBC on St. James. It was a waste of time and money. Racist towards immigrants, only seeking money. Quality of education poor. Teachers does not respect students. Unfair towards foreign students. If you are serious about your education, forget GBC. All they want is your money.

There more to pick on you even if just applying and just gives that glears at your face and purposly side what is unnecessary ways. Than I came form far away form Downtown and now I know to apply somewhere else. • Terrible college peeps, its no good for business courses. Its time to say it as it is without any sugar coating. I witnessed a time that brought tears to my eyes and found that the admin generally is not willing to assist and tries to be bureaucratic thereby making it very difficult to achieve fairness. Overall without really stating too much of the pain I went through. I must ask international students to avoid the college at all costs.

If you are already enrolled in then please do have the confidence to move after the completion of the semester or act in an appropriate manner after all life is too short to go through the difficulties I did.

The student association too is a very corrupt body that is not willing to assist students either as the ones incharge at the time were too busy celebrating and enjoying parties that students did not know were being hosted.

All in all if there are issues then please be cautious about Mr. Porter and Aida Viveros as they only pretend to assist but shall not do the moral thing and guide you appropriately. If you challenge the business chair and ask questions such as why are a few courses nothing but repetition of other courses they shall do little to change the repetition and it shall cost you a $1000 with a waste of 3 hrs per week for an entire semester.

Please save yourselves, avoid this garbage college, they do not care enough to have good sports facilities, neither is their gym optimally utilized. Their librarby is way too small and noisy.
