If you can afford it, go for it!
Bucknell’s campus is absolutely beautiful. The administration’s poured a lot of money into new buildings and the school continues to expand its footprint. Dining Services is also top notch! Lewisburg is a quaint town that offers the basics within walking distance, including a small theater, a couple bars/restaurants, and a bookstore. Town/gown relations are strained but the town is much safer than most college towns.
Academics is definitely challenging but professors will let you slide by with a D if you show minimal effort. It really is all about what you put into it. Being a liberal arts school allowed for quite a variety of course offerings. I rarely spoke to my advisor while others were aided by their advisor in lining-up interships, abroad programs and other great experiences.
In aiding your career, it’s a toss-up. If the recruiter’s heard of Bucknell, they know you went to a great school. But it’s common for people not to know about the school or its reputation. I landed my 1st job with the aid of a fraternity brother, so connections abound, but don’t expect anything just because you went to BU. The CEO of Tasty Baking Co is a Bucknellian and barely 40! Les Mooves went to BU, now he runs CBS!
The student body is mostly spoiled and from the upper/upper-middle class but don’t let that discourage you. A lot of Bucknellians marry Bucknellians. It’s been over 17 years yet my best of friends are Bucknellians and I couldn’t be happier.
The campus is small enough that you can make a reputation for yourself (in a good or bad way). I think everyone’s involved in at least one activity, whether it’s a fraternity/sorority, varsity/club/intramural sport, A-Phi-O, or a faith-based organization. It’s very easy to get involved!
Again, if you can afford it, you will have the best four years of your life!
School is in the middle of nowhere. University has history of suppressing free speech. Town/gown relations are abysmal. Local police view Bucknell students as spoiled rich kids. University does not stick up for students. Quite the opposite. Only school in the country where university punishes students for off campus violations.
High priced school. Ivy League prices. State college education.
